Central African Republic President Michel Djotodia has dispatched special envoys to neighboring countries to make a plea for assistance in stabilizing the country. CAR envoy Idriss Salao visited Cameroon just after armed men from his country crossed the border and fought with forces in Cameroon resulting in seven deaths.

Residents of eastern Cameroon say armed men dressed as soldiers from the Central African Republic have attacked military installations and markets. The government of Cameroon says seven people were killed in the attack and a few arrests were made.

The octogenarian became president of the West African nation 31 years ago when his predecessor, Ahmadou Ahijo, resigned. Critics have often criticized Biya for failing to hand over power, democratically or otherwise.
