The Ambassador commended Georgia’s commitment to ISAF and its contribution to creating peace and security in Afghanistan. Ambassador Norland also spoke about Georgia’s strategic importance as the “gatekeeper to the new silk road” and the opportunity to connect “the East and the West in a way that builds a foundation for peace and prosperity.”

Ambassador Norland told reporters that that the U.S. – Georgian relationship is “as strong as ever.” Referring to the recent resolution by the U.S. House of Representatives, he said, “Congress has been interested for many years in the progress of democracy in Georgian and whenever’s there’s something that causes concern – in this case the arrest of a former prime minister - then naturally the Congress is going to show interest."
