The U.S. Department of Defense has warned that the growing terrorist presence in Mali threatens U.S. citizens and interests in the region, even leaving embassies vulnerable to attack... In a few days, the newest United Nations peacekeeping mission will commence in the northern African nation with 12,640 boots on the ground. They will begin the essential process of rebuilding the Malian security sector, disarming militias, and strengthening Mali's state police, which ultimately will reduce the likelihood that attacks like these will threaten more innocent lives.
