I don’t see a regional religious war. While different groups might cross borders, each is fundamentally responding to a set of local issues. These have less to do with religion than with decades of human rights abuse, impunity for crimes by the security forces and the groups themselves, rampant corruption, underdevelopment, and unresolved conflicts over land in a changing climate.
