The U.S. says it has given Ukraine USD 265 million dollars since the eastern European nation began fighting Russian-backed separatist forces in its eastern regions. Defense Ministry spokesman Michel Carpenter told Voice of America in an interview the money was spent on military training and equipment.

The U.S. defense budget law authorizes USD 300 million assistance for Ukraine to fight Russian-backed militants. USD 50 million of that could fund lethal aid and counter-artillery radars.
