The Peruvian government has placed the National Civil Defense Institute (INDECI) under the Ministry of Defense (MINDEF) to improve and maximize the efficiency of its responses to natural disasters. The country's Army, Air Force, and Navy held an initial meeting with INDECI to plan the cooperation efforts.

The Brazilian Army (EB) now has a new Firearms Support Simulation System (SIMAF, for its Portuguese acronym), a modern training tool that creates an accurate, virtual reproduction of a battlefront. One of the simulator's units became operational in February at the Military Academy in Agulhas Negras (AMAN) in the city of Resende, Rio de Janeiro state, with another expected to go live in April at the EB Training Camp in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul.

Guatemalan Army Civilian Affairs officials and Civilian-Military representatives from the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) met from January 25th-31st to define and standardize protocols for humanitarian missions. The officials developed approaches to building three schools and two medical clinics in villages and small towns in the San Marcos department as part of the “Beyond the Horizon” 2016 mission.
