In a significant development at the 35th Ministerial and Heads of State Summit in Doha, Qatar, all six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member-states (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE) agreed to the establishment of a unified armed forces command. This major breakthrough is not to be confused with the quite different Dir Al-Jazeerah (Peninsula Shield).
