'If Armenian soldier wants to return to Armenia, he will be sent back'

Shahin Sayilov: “Officials of the International Committee of the Red Cross will meet with the captive in the coming days”. The Armenian serviceman, who was captured while trying to pass the part of the contact line controlled by the Azerbaijani Army, has been taken to Baku. Secretary of the State Commission for Prisoners of War, Missing Persons, and Hostages Affairs Secretary Shahin Sayilov told APA that the reason why Armenian servicemen passed the contact line is being specified. “He has no documents. He said his name is Gevorkovich Injigulyan. But some websites write his name and surname incorrectly. At present, he is held at the Defense Ministry in Baku”, noted Sayilov. Sayilov mentioned that officials of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) would meet with the captive in the coming days: “Azerbaijani representation of the ICRC does not work due to Ramadan holiday. Therefore, they have not met with the captive yet. Probably, the issue of his return to Armenia will also be discussed. If he wants to return to Armenia, he will be sent back. Everything will depend on his desire. Committee officials take into account the desire of the captive”. On the night of August 7-8, two servicemen of Armenian armed units passed the part of the contact line controlled by the Azerbaijani Army in the direction of Aghdam frontline. “Defense Ministry” of the separatist regime, which has occupied Azerbaijani territories, has confirmed the fact that Armenian soldier passed the part of the contact line controlled by the Azerbaijani Army. Press service of the “Defense Ministry” said that on the night of August 7-8, at about 3 am, soldier Akop Gevorkovich Injigulyan, 22, got lost and stepped onto the territory controlled by the Azerbaijani Army.
