Governor of East Darfur Calls for Total Disarmament
The Governor of East Darfur state, Abdul Hamid Musa Kasha, has requested from President Omar Al Bashir to issue a decree on disarmament in Darfur and prohibit the use of Land Cruisers by non-state agencies.
The Governor stated on Tuesday night that disarmament must be a central aim and should be forcibly implemented in order to establish security and stability in the region.
He pointed out that he, as a Governor, has the mandate to issue such a decision for East Darfur state, but that this would not have a major impact as long as weapons can be transported through neighbouring states.
He revealed that a large number of the Central Reserve Forces (Abu Tira) and security forces have been sent to East Darfur state to resolve the conflicts creating chaos in the state.
