The U.S. government often appropriates assistance by region instead of breaking it down by individual countries in order to allow for flexibility in funding and to address regional concerns. Central America Regional includes assistance appropriated as a lump sum to multiple countries in the region, which includes Guatemala, Belize, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Panama.
The Central America Regional Security Initiative (CARSI), the aid package that the U.S. government provides to all seven countries, makes up nearly all assistance to Central America Regional. However, Central America Regional funding also includes development and health assistance unrelated to CARSI, but destined for Central America.
