A huge, Russian-led military exercise will take place over the next seven days, bringing together the six members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the post-Soviet bloc equivalent to NATO. The exercise, which started Thursday in Tajikistan, comes amid a flurry of U.S.-led NATO exercises that have sprung up across Europe.

As increased fighting on the ground in eastern Ukraine threatens the already fragile ceasefire, members of the U.S. Congress once again are pressing President Barack Obama to request lethal military aid for Ukraine to combat Russian-backed rebels.
